September Updates to the Eternal Community League

We're excited that we've completed the first month of the Eternal Community League with a very successful Invitational last Sunday. Moving into the month of September, we've been listening very carefully to the feedback provided by our viewers and players, as well as our own observations. All of the tournaments we currently run will continue to be held, we are just making some slight tweaks to the overall structure.

ECL Changes

We are making some slight adjustments to the point totals gained from our events. Changes are marked in italics.

ECL Tuesday Weekly every Tuesday at 8:30 PM EDT
Swiss bo3 with Markets only, capped at 4 rounds
1 League Point for entry and playing at least 2 rounds
1 League Point per match win
4 League Points for going 4-0

ECL Thursday Weekly every Thursday at 2:00 PM EDT
Swiss bo3 with Markets only, capped at 4 rounds
1 League Point for entry and playing at least 2 rounds
1 League Point per match win
4 League Points for going 4-0

ECL Casual Friday every Friday at 6:00 PM EDT
Swiss bo3 with Markets only, capped at 4 rounds
1 League Point for entry and playing at least 2 rounds

ECL Sunday Challenge every Sunday at 12:00 PM EDT (except for the Invitational each month)
Swiss Conquest (3 decks with 1 ban), with a cut to top 4
1 League Point for entry and playing at least 2 rounds
1 League Points per match win
4th-3rd: 3 League Points
2nd: 5 League Points
1st: 10 League Points

To summarize:

  • Tuesday and Thursday events will now offer an additional 4 League Points to the player(s) who goes 4-0.
  • Casual Friday will now offer the title Jank of the Week to the best meme/jank deck (as voted on by twitch chat during the stream). The Jank of the Week deck will be featured in an article on TGP's site the following week.
  • The ECL Sunday Challenge will be Swiss Conquest, with players bringing three decks and banning one of the opponent's prior to each round (changed from bringing 4 decks). Deck restrictions will still be faction based as outlined in our rules. Players will now receive 1 League Point for match wins. The cut on Sunday will now always be to top 4. The point totals for the top 4 players have been reduced.

We determined that the point totals during August were too heavily weighted towards the Sunday events, and we wanted to even out the potential points across our events by providing a bonus for Tuesday and Thursday, while reducing the points offered for Sunday.

On Friday, we want to encourage the "Casual Friday" atmosphere, while still allowing it to be a place for players new to competitive play to test out decks. We considered a ban system, either with specific cards chosen by us or having players/viewers vote, but eventually decided to find a way to positively encourage players to bring fun meme decks if they can. During every Casual Friday tournament, there will be a strawpoll linked in Twitch chat where viewers can vote on which deck they think deserves the title of Jank of the Week. At the end of the stream, the player who's deck received the most votes will gain the title Jank of the Week. That player will also be interviewed on their deck and a TGP member will write a deck tech on the Jank of the Week that will be published on our site.

Highlander!

On Saturday, September 8th we will be hosting the ECL Highlander Special Event. This event will be a Swiss bo3 Highlander tournament with a cut to top 8. Highlander (also known as singleton) is a format where you can only have one copy of any (non-power) card in your deck. Seek Power and Petition count as power for the purpose of Highlander. The minimum deck size will still be 75 cards as normal.

The tournament starts at 12:00 PM EDT, with registration closing at 11:30 AM EDT.

League Points for this event will be awarded as follows:
1 League Point for entry and playing at least 2 rounds
1 League Points per match win
8th-5th: 3 League Points
4th-3rd: 5 League Points
2nd: 10 League Points
1st: 15 League Points

Invitational

For our Invitational, we will be maintaining a multi-deck format, and it will be held on September 30th. Beyond that, we are still considering the best options for how to change the event to make it an even better playing and viewing experience. Please let us know what you think here! We will announce what changes we intend to make sometime next week to give players more than enough time to prepare.
