The September ECL Invitational

It’s finally time for the ECL September Invitational!

The Invitational will begin at 12:00 PM EDT on Sunday, September 30th. There’s still a few events left before we get there, but things are ramping up quickly, and players are looking for every possible point to get the last few spots. Here’s the guide for both players and viewers what you can expect.

To qualify for the Invitational, players earn points by playing in ECL events. You can find out all you need to know about the points earned for each event here.

The top 16 point holding players will qualify to play in the Invitational. The current standings are below.

Any ties will be broken the day of the Invitational. Players will play 1 hour before the tournament starts with their decks for the event to break any ties if they occur. This will not be streamed, and the format will be dependent on the number of players that are tied.

Player invites will be sent out through discord pms on Friday, September 28th after the ECL Casual Friday. Players are required to accept their invite by 9:00 PM EDT on Saturday, September 29th or the invite will be automatically declined. Players are required to be in the TGP discord server to play in the invitational.

The Format

The match format will be the same as we have been using for our Sunday weekly events, 3 deck Conquest with players banning one of their opponent’s decks before each round. Full details on the Conquest format can be found here.

How we structure the bracket will be changing slightly from last month. The 16 players who qualify will be seeded by their ranking in the point standing into four groups of 4 players each. Each of these groups will play a 4 player dual tournament format, outlined below.

  • The 4 players of the group are split into two pairs and play each other.

  • The winners of these matches will then face each other in the Winner’s match.

    • The victor places first in the group and advances.

  • The losers of the initial matches face each other in the Loser’s match.

    • The loser places fourth in the group, they are eliminated.

  • The loser of the Winner’s match and the winner of the Loser’s match will face each other in a fifth match.

    • The winner gets second place in the group and advances to the next stage.

    • The loser places third in the group and will be eliminated.

Groups will be seeded based on point totals from the season:

Once the group stage is complete, the remaining 8 players will play a single elimination top 8 to determine the winner of the tournament.
